Quarters

HafenCity quarters

HafenCity comprises ten quarters whose diversity and variability go to make up the overall picture of the district

Am Sandtorkai/Dalmannkai

HafenCity’s first completed quarter is characterized by coexistence and juxtaposition. Here, the interplay of urbanity and social neighborliness is clearly evident.

City and village, density and expanse, historical testimonies and contemporary architecture, spacious urban areas and intimate courtyards – all these intermesh.

Am Sandtorpark/Grasbrook

With two green parks, the neighborhood offers ideal conditions to residents, Katharinenschule primary pupils and employees of surrounding companies alike. Its flair is green and metropolitan at the same time.

The final project in the otherwise completed neighborhood will create more homes, including subsidized housing and apartments for students.

Brooktorkai/Ericus

Brooktorkai/Ericus’ position at the interfaces of both the Speicherstadt and the existing city center makes it an ideal corporate location.

Germanischer Lloyd dropped anchor here, while the Spiegel publishing house forms a striking entrée to HafenCity.

Strandkai

Surrounded by water and park, Strandkai offers spectacular views over the port, HafenCity and the Elbe. The world’s largest cruise ships sail right past the office buildings.

They include such prominent structures as Marco Polo Tower and the Unilever building. At the tip of the quay, prime residential locations are being built.

Überseequartier

The heart of HafenCity is Überseequartier. The centerpiece is Überseeboulevard: like a meandering river, the pedestrian zone stretches from Speicherstadt to the Elbe.

Stores, restaurants and cafés line its course. While urban life is already pulsating in the north of the quarter, the south is still a construction site.

Elbtorquartier

To the east of Magdeburger Hafen harbor, HafenCity’s “knowledge quarter” is growing with HafenCity University, the Greenpeace headquarters and designxport.

A large number of innovative and sustainable projects give the quarter a special character. These include the Ecumenical Forum Brücke, the Musicians’ House and the Stadthaushotel, Europe’s largest integrative hotel.

Am Lohsepark

Am Lohsepark quarter is an extremely attractive urban space emerging on a historic industrial and railroad site.

The family-friendly residential neighborhood encompasses HafenCity’s largest green space, Lohsepark.

Oberhafen

As a neighborhood for artists and creatives, Oberhafen is developing into a highly exciting place. Warehouses and brick characterize its rough charm.

In contrast to what is usual in HafenCity, the old buildings will remain in place for the long term. Additional sports areas are being created in the east, with a soccer field on the waterfront.

Baakenhafen

Living, leisure and work between double waterfronts: an urban district is being created at HafenCity’s largest harbor basin. Water houses, a play and leisure island and lots of greenery characterize the future residential and leisure district.

Elbbrücken

With its skyscrapers up to 245 meters high, Elbbrücken Quarter marks the sensational entrance to eastern HafenCity.

It offers companies a location unlike any other in Hamburg. A clever urban development concept and proximity to the water also make the location highly attractive for living.
