Architecture for forward-looking ensemble in Elbbrücken Quarter unveiled
11.11.2021
An innovative cooperative project with a variety of uses: The mixed-use ensemble of buildings in Elbbrücken Quarter links residential, culture, child daycare and business on four plots. The highlight of the forward-looking project in the Elbbrücken neighborhood will be the Digital Art Museum, in future the largest museum for digital art in Europe. The architectural plans for the cultural project and the other components of the ensemble were publicly presented today.
In addition to the Digital Art Museum, the ensemble of building will offer about 600 attractive rental and privately owned apartments in an unusual setting, an international publicly funded student residence with a further 260 apartments at affordable rents, a child daycare facility, space for catering businesses and retail, plus co-working areas.
For the project located on both sides of the water at Baakenhafen and the River Elbe, Hamburg-based ECE together with Harmonia Immobilien, Lars Hinrichs and Studierendenwerk Hamburg as the building owners and project developers, together with HafenCity Hamburg and the Hamburg Ministry of Urban Development and Housing, today unveiled the winners of the architectural workshop process.
The designs of Atelier Kempe Thill, Rotterdam, and blauraum Architekten, Hamburg (both plot 113), KPW Papay Warncke und Partner Architekten, Hamburg (plot 114), Heide & von Beckerath, Berlin (plot 115) and Diener & Diener Architekten, Basel (plot 116) were successful.
With their varied heights and cubatures, glass high points and individual façade treatments in brick look, ceramics and colored recycled concrete, the designs provide for a varied appearance. Alongside a high amenity value, the ensemble offers modern mobility options, with a direct link to public transport via the Elbbrücken subway and rapid transit interchange, numerous charging points for cars and bicycles and an extensive car-sharing service.
Through its application of the highest energy standards, reliance on renewable energy, CO2-reduced construction methods, the use of recyclable building components and planning geared to accessibility, the project offers the highest level of user comfort and meets the high sustainability standards of the HafenCity Ecolabel.
