Following the go-ahead by the Hamburg Senate and parliament, the newly established Science City Hamburg Bahrenfeld GmbH has now carried out a comprehensive site analysis. This documents the current on-site situation based on existing records, specialist analyses and the expert knowledge of various institutions and stakeholders.
The extensive knowledge documentation also acts as the basis for the upcoming consolidation of planning for the central development areas. The urban design and open spaces of the central development areas of the former trotting track and the allotment garden site south of Schulgartenweg and Holstenkamp will be further elaborated and publicly discussed in a broad communication process.

In coming years a new knowledge quarter and urban neighborhood will be created in the west of Hamburg: Science City Hamburg Bahrenfeld.
Starting from the existing research campus, a new urban area with a high amenity value will be developed. This will offer ideal conditions for excellent university facilities, for start-ups and for innovative companies. Good, affordable housing, attractive areas for recreation and leisure as well as a direct link to Hamburg’s rapid transit network complete the picture for the future. The whole development is founded on a cooperative process. Participants comprise the Senate Chancellery, the Ministries for Urban Development and Housing (BSW), Transport and the Mobility Revolution (BVM), Science, Research, Equalities and Districts (BWFGB) and Environment, Climate, Energy and Agriculture (BUKEA), the Altona District Administration as well as the University of Hamburg, DESY, Hamburg Invest and the Hamburg State Office for Real Estate Management and Land Assets.
